Buttermilk Falls, on the New Jersey side of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area, cascades 90 feet down the Kittatiny Ridge and is the only falls in New Jersey other than Great Falls with a developed viewing area. It was the site of the headquaerters of General Israel Putnam, Commander of the Highlands, in 1779.
